Find duplicate posts, tags and categories, and posts in several categories. Stops new duplicate posts from being published.

== Description ==

Duplicate Post Finder keeps a site to one post per title.

* **Duplicate posts.** Lists every group of posts with the same title, per post type. Trash single copies, keep one and trash the rest, or mark a group as not a duplicate.
* **Duplicate tags and categories.** Lists terms with the same name in one taxonomy and merges them into the one you keep. Posts move over and child categories move under the kept term.
* **Posts in several categories.** Lists posts filed in two or more categories, with a one-click "Keep only" per category. A category together with its own child counts as one by default.
* **Warning while writing.** The block editor and the classic editor show a notice as soon as the title matches another post, with links to it.
* **No new duplicates.** A post can not be published while a published, scheduled or private post has the same title. Old duplicates can still be edited.

Titles can be compared loosely (case, accents, punctuation and symbols ignored) or exactly (only case and extra spaces ignored).

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= What happens when someone tries to publish a duplicate? =

The block editor shows an error and the post stays unpublished. The classic editor, Quick Edit and imports save the post as a draft and show a notice. A published post that is renamed to a title already in use keeps its old title.

= Can administrators still publish a duplicate? =

Turn on "Administrators may publish duplicates anyway" under Settings, or mark the title as not a duplicate.

= Does merging terms keep their links? =

The archive link of each deleted term stops working. Add redirects if those pages are indexed.
